Carolina Skies: Scare-olina Skies edition is a Halloween-themed version of Morehead's classic star show, Carolina Skies. Come learn about stars, constellations and celestial events through legends from ancient cultures, featuring monsters, mayhem and madness!

Te invitamos a nuestra cúpula del planetario para ver los cielos de América Latina y escuchar historias de las comunidades indígenas Inka y Maya. En español e inglés. Contenido adecuado para estudiantes de sexto a duodécimo grado.


Humans have looked at the night sky for thousands of years to understand the world around us. Take a journey in our Dome to see Latin American skies and listen to Indigenous star stories told by Maya and Inka people hundreds of years ago. In Spanish and English languages. Best for grades 6-12.

Astronomy Workshop - Basic Training

About the program:
Morehead Planetarium and Science Center is pleased to offer astronomy programming designed to help scout groups with badgework and other goals.

Designed for scouts ages 6-9, this program will help scouts learn about our Solar System. Scouts will “travel” through space and into our Milky Way galaxy in the simulated sky of the planetarium, locate and identify celestial bodies with telescopes, learn all about why years and days are different lengths on different planets, and the different types of eclipses that happen on Earth and the Moon.

Recommended for Cub Scouts or equivalent level. This workshop fulfills requirements 1A, 3B, 3F, and 4A of the "Out of This World" Cub Scout module. 

Tickets:
Tickets for this program will go on sale on DATE. Ticket sales will close on the Wednesday prior to the workshop at 6pm. Walkup ticket sales will not be available.

Join Morehead educators in exploring the night sky through the lens of cultural astronomy. One Sky, Many Eyes is a unique, live overview of the current North Carolina sky - weaving together modern astronomy and traditional interpretations of the heavens from various cultures.

Storytelling Under The Stars

Best for: 
Storytelling Under the Stars is recommended for ages 7 and up.

About the Show:
Morehead Planetarium and Science Center will present the annual “Storytelling Under the Stars” on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2022, at 6 p.m., featuring students from Professor Brian Sturm's storytelling class at UNC School of Information and Library Science.

Each storyteller will tell a story about the night sky. The storytelling will take place against the backdrop of the “sky” of Morehead’s GlaxoSmithKline Fulldome Theater.

Members will be able to purchase tickets to the show two days early. Since this is a special seasonal program, member discounts do not apply to this show. Science For All Summit

Thank you for your interest in participating in the 2024 Science for All Summit! Please select the appropriate registration type based on your current role. The registration fee includes 2 continental breakfasts, 2 lunches, and digital access to Summit resources including presenter slides and handouts. CEUs may be available for qualifying participants.

Optional Add-on

    Registrants for the Summit may purchase tickets for the add-on event for themselves and up to 3 additional, non-registrant guests ($10/ticket). Capacity limited. Tickets for this add-on may be added to your cart here, or purchased later in a separate transaction.

Astronomy Workshop - Advanced Training

About the program:
Morehead Planetarium and Science Center is pleased to offer astronomy programming designed to help scout groups with badgework and other goals.

Designed for scouts ages 10-13, this program will help scouts learn about astronomy as they model our Earth, Moon, and Sun; identify constellations in a simulated night sky; and use telescopes and binoculars to explore the real night sky. Additionally, they will discuss light pollution and learn about how to follow the ecliptic path of the planets in our Solar System.

Recommended for Scouts BSA or equivalent level.

Tickets for this program will go on sale on DATE, Ticket sales will close on the Wednesday prior at 6pm. Walkup ticket sales will not be available.
